moves. At 100% / 0 the lit palette is the declared colour. Anything marked
! has left sRGB and is being clipped, which shifts
its hue — back it off.

Pieces stack vertically, so their boundaries are horizontal. Striations
across the stack run vertical and cross those boundaries; along runs
horizontal and competes with them. This is the fraction cut along.

Per-piece lightness variation. The lab gets this free from its
randomised gradient window; a flat fill has none, which reads as dead however bright
it is. Hue and chroma hold, so the prime is never in doubt.

Specular highlight — light reflecting off the glass, not
shading applied to it, and a different thing from the inset edge-shadow that domed
the lab's pieces. A reflection is the shape of the source seen at an angle,
so it is rarely round; and a flat sheet catches the light only where the angle
happens to be right, not everywhere at once.
