The earth from space
Pull the sections down and drag the copper marker: the continents move to where they were in that year. Drag the globe to turn it, east and west about the pole, north and south by tilting. The globe says how sure it is, in one of five words: measured where the seafloor still carries its stripes; inferred where only rock magnetism says how far north a piece was; fitted where the pieces are real and the fits argued; guessed where the pieces are real and nobody knows where they were; invented before the oldest rock, where only the amount comes from the rocks.

Continents from the EarthByte model of Merdith and others (2021), CC BY 4.0, turned by their plates' rotations for the year; today's coast from the world pyramid's contours. A piece of continent is a block of crust, not a shoreline: the sea's edge in any year is a later layer.
